Help bees thrive. Every colony matters.
Estimated annual honey bee colony losses in the United States
1 April 2025 – 1 April 2026
A visual call to protect bees. The arrow is symbolic; it does not plot population measurements or annual loss rates.
Beekeepers can replace lost colonies. That is why heavy annual losses can coexist with stable or rising hive totals. This is a loss rate, not a 39.9% fall in the total bee population.
Preliminary US Beekeeping Survey: 2,327 respondents; 95% confidence interval 30.1–53.1%. The estimate improved from 55.6% in 2024–2025. US results do not describe global losses or predict losses at your hive.

172 species at risk
At least 172 of 1,928 assessed European wild bee species are threatened with extinction, according to IUCN. Keeping honey bees does not replace protecting wild bees and their habitats.
This measures extinction risk, not the percentage of bees lost. Changes from earlier assessments also reflect improved knowledge. IUCN 2025 ↗
